Happy List! – March 17, 2011 (St. Patrick’s Day Edition!)

Things that make me happy… RIGHT NOW!

– Not having to frantically search for articles of green clothing. I have a handful of pieces now, finally embracing the fantastic color for redheads.

– Being able to use the proverbial staple saying – “Kiss Me, I’m Irish!” – and mean it! Last year, during the great genealogy dig of 2010, I finally found proof that I am partly Irish. So, my red locks may come from a bottle, but heck, so did Lucille Ball’s…

– Helpful friends and family. I voiced my concerns about an upcoming audition, hesitatingly revealing my neurotic actress tendencies. It’s hard enough to believe in yourself after inevitable entertainment industry rejection and ever present self-doubt and self-image issues, nevermind past hurtful words/comments from people you love. Surprisingly, not only did I receive so many positive words of encouragement, but I also received copies of hard to get sheet music. I am lucky to have people in my life who care to help me out, no matter the circumstance. Maybe I am more supported in these endeavors than I originally imagined.

– Building my 1st solo “Tower of Power” with the kids and having it stand up to all stress tests (earthquakes, hurricanes, tornados). Basically, I enlisted ALL the kids in helping me build pieces to construct a Lego skyscraper that touched the ceiling. I had suppliers, contractors, builders and even delivery people! They really got into it and were so utterly proud of themselves. It was amazing! The only thing they liked better was watching Godzilla Jen knock it down. 🙂 Proud of my little architects!

Hope you didn’t get pinched today! Keep thinking of the things that make YOU smile! 🙂

  1. Happy thing for today, obviously: St. Patrick’s day! I am mostly Irish, so it means a lot to me 🙂 Though ever since the passing of my amazing, wonderful, best-ever, proud Irish-woman Great Grandmother; today always has a bit of sadness to it…. If she were still alive, I’d be having corned beef and cabbage dinner with her, listening to her sing all her favorite Irish lyrics. I still enjoy celebrating my heritage with a little booze, a lot of Celtic knot jewelry, and TONS of green. Rest in Peace G.G., we all miss you terribly…

    • Thanks for sharing such great memories Carina! It’s always tough when ones you love pass away and even tougher when there are such strong reminders of them on a specific day, in a specific place, when experiencing specific smells and sounds, etc. It’s the ability to remember, honor, cherish and hold on to the good memories that can often get you through the rough spots in life.

  2. Godzilla Jen. Nice. Did you make that weird Godzilla shreek too? Because that would’ve been really cool.
